Kirk O’ The Valley – Creative Writing Workshop – 3rd – 5th grades
Writing is an incredibly important skill to have. It is not just used for creating fiction, but to clearly express any thought in print. In this Workshop I use children’s interests and need for expression to explore story structure, conflict and clarity at writing. This is done through peer interaction, playing games in a fun and creative environment, and by understanding story from within.
The main focus is on the importance and usefulness of communicating and expressing oneself on paper. The theme and prompts for the writing exercises will stem from the children’s interests
and will be geared to write stories that connect with them. We’ll explore different genres and types of writing (e.g. descriptive, realistic, humor).
